CushyBeds 4 Layer Hybrid Rated
- Good for Bad Backs?
We love the CushyBeds 4 Layer Latex Memory Foam Mattress — so much so that it might be our pick for the best hybrid mattress!
It’s supportive, comfortable, with a great bounce to boot. It’s not perfect — the edges could be a little more supportive, for starters — but it’s an excellent mattress nonetheless that will suit many people.
Fancy a look at the CushyBeds 4 Layer Latex Memory Foam Mattress?
So you’re looking for a mattress. You’ve heard that latex is better for the environment—and your own health—than foam, but you’ve also heard that foam is more comfortable and better in support. Depending on who you’ve asked, you’ve probably also heard that either is more expensive than the other.
If you’re torn and want the best of both, the CushyBeds Latex Memory Foam Mattress is here to give you exactly that: a foam-latex hybrid designed for support, a cool night’s sleep, pressure relief, plus a nice little bounce.
Sounds good, right? It only gets better…

If you’ve been looking around the mattress market for a little while, trying to figure out which one is best for you and yours, then it’s most likely you’ve come across some notable differences in what’s available.
The long and the short of it is: latex mattresses are incredibly durable, good for the environment, and promote cool sleep—but they’re not necessarily the most comfortable.
And if they are, they tend to be out of most people’s price range.
On the other hand, memory foam mattresses are usually far and away the most comfortable, generally affordable, but aren’t often particularly environmentally friendly and come with a whole slew of plot twists from hot sleep to high VOCs.
Why can’t there be a middle ground, we hear you say. Perhaps a, we don’t know, hybrid type thing?
CushyBeds to the rescue.
Their intensely engineered mattress has managed to blend together the ups of both foam and latex and has little of the downs of either.
The hybrid mattress is made up of four layers, starting with a 7” high-density support base that serves as a foundational platform.
This is followed by a 1” 4.0 VISCO memory foam layer, made to conform to the sleeper’s body.
The next layer is a 1” Gel Swirl memory foam that ensures durability and, most importantly, keeps the sleeper cool.
All of this is topped off by a 1” graphite infused Talalay Latex technology that really makes sure the mattress doesn’t store heat, and adds the firm support of latex on top of the plush memory foam below.
All of this is wrapped in an easy-to-remove (washable!) cover, making sure that you make sure to keep your bed fresh and clean.
Oh, and of course: the mattress is CertiPUR-US certified, meaning that as few harmful chemicals as possible were used in its making.
Good for you inside the house, good for the earth outside the house.
CushyBeds: The Brand
Not every mattress company is in it because of their founder’s long-lived desire for a good night’s sleep. Most of them aren’t. That’s not to say that the product isn’t good — just that not everyone has a story to sell alongside their mattress.
CushyBeds is not one of those companies. In fact, more than just a story to sell, CushyBeds seems to just get it.
“A good night’s sleep is important for your memory, heart function, weight level, creativity, attention span, stress level, emotional stability, and alertness,” they explain on their website. (Are you listening, first-year BA students? That one goes especially for you.)
And that’s why the engineers behind this mattress use CushyBeds as a platform to combine 50 years of mattress manufacturing experience with top-of-the-line technology.
And that’s not empty words: the materials CushyBeds use are rigorously tested at Rutgers University to ensure your deep sleep can come at no health risks.
Buying with CushyBeds means investing in a knowledgeable company who, in return, offers a 120-day guarantee, a 10-year warranty, and a CertiPUR-US certified product.
CushyBeds 4 Layer Latex Memory Foam Mattress: Review
The CushyBeds 4 layer hybrid mattress packs a lot of features into its mid-market price. Here’s a few of the stand-outs:
- Graphite infused Talalay Latex: Keeps the bed cool and fresh regardless of the temperature
- Excellent bounce: Memory foam often dulls any resistance in the mattress, but the latex composition means that bedtime activities come with an extra dose of bounce!
- Made in the USA
The Talalay Latex Hybrid
Talalay. If you tried to say it out loud a few times after reading it because it looked just a little weird, you’re not alone — it took us a while too.
But in all seriousness, the Talalay process is a great production method for the mattress industry: a way of molding latex foam rubber without gelation reagents. In other words, no VOCs — volatile organic compounds.
Or even more succinctly: it’s healthier than foam, and breathes better as well.
Memory Foam offers Contouring Pressure Relief
The memory foam in the CushyBeds 4 Layer mattress isn’t just for comfort purposes (although it is very comfortable) — it provides the core support for contoured pressure relief.
That means no more waking up with aches and pains — instead, your pressure points will be relieved and will give you some of that ‘floating on a cloud’ feeling.
120 days! At this rate, they have 20 days on Casper, Sealy Optimum, and the Tempur Pedic brands.
That’s quite some time to be able to enjoy a great mattress, knowing that on the off chance it won’t be as comfortable as you’d hoped, you can return it easily, no questions asked.
Takes Shape Immediately
This is another corner of the market that CushyBeds cleverly occupies: a lot of memory foam mattresses out there call for several hours expansion period, if not a whole night.
Because this one’s a hybrid, combining memory foam with latex and a high-density base, the materials don’t need the same amount of time to take shape.
You open the package and, voila, the bed is there.
CushyBeds ships at 70 lbs, which is significantly lighter than most other memory foam mattresses out there—most weighing 80+ lbs.
But that’s just the shipping weight! The mattress itself is a very light 46 lbs, which means: easily transportable even after it’s out of the package, either within the house or during a big move.
A Lil’ Extra
Now this, this we adore: CushyBeds sends a complimentary cooling sleep mask along with every mattress, as well as a handy little package opener to help you welcome the mattress into its new home.
A very cute little extra, no?
Not Hot But Could Be Cooler
While the CushyBeds hybrid memory foam mattress is praised for being made for a ‘super cool’ sleep experience, some sleepers have reported that, well, they expected the cool to be cooler.
The experience was nowhere near what could be described as ‘hot,’ mind, but still, good to know.
We found that the mattress stayed cool to its promise, but we were testing it out in a cooler season. We’d be interested to try it again in the heat of Summer.
Soft Around the Edges
It’s not to be helped, not with the way memory foam is (currently) designed, but still: the edges will give way a little if leaned on.
So, either make sure you settle in sturdy when you sit down on the very edge, or keep on looking for something more robust around the edges.
We barely noticed this when testing it out, but heavier people might find this to be an issue, as well as people that toss and turn a lot in their sleep.
CushyBeds is a cleverly designed mattress with a lot of attention to detail: the cover is washable, the materials are tested for health and durability, and the final product is a 100% American made.
It’s a great hybrid for those wanting the support and the chemical-free value of latex, plus the plush comfort of memory foam. It’s got a good 120-day guarantee and a 10-year warranty promise—not a bad deal!
But it’s got a few minor issues that might make it not-quite the perfect mattress for everyone: not everyone agrees it’s as icy cool as advertised, and it is a little soft around the edges.
But, all of that taken into account, it’s still a high quality product that’ll probably suit a good majority of all late-night-sleepers and midday-nappers out there.
