Our Story

Hack to Sleep is a blog showcasing the best products, features and tips for ensuring a good night’s sleep.

Launched in the summer of 2016, we are a small team of writers with a mutual interest in ‘sleep hacking’.

I'm kept a busy man as the senior reviewer of the various gear we get sent here at Hack To Sleep. My garage is a revolving door of mattresses, pillows and far too many cardboard boxes. As somebody who has suffered from chronic back pain since his mid-20s, I know how difficult it can be to get a good night's sleep on a bad bed. When I'm not road-testing the latest sleep gear, you'll find me at the gym or cheering on the Cubs.

I have been the H2S editor since 2017 and am responsible for overseeing all new reviews and buyer guides posted on the site. I also deal with our [overflowing!] inbox and answer various questions we get sent in the FAQ section. I have studied the psychology and science behind sleep for over 8 years. I dedicate my time as a sleep disorder coach in Kansas, working with dozens of clients. If I'm not taking calls on Skype or working through our latest articles, you'll find me being walked by my Labrador!

I am our resident Dreams Analyst. My job is to provide some insights in to why we dream of certain images and memories - or get trapped in the same nightmares. I am fascinated by lucid dreaming and believe there is much to be gained from these vivid creations in our minds. If you are looking to have a recurring dream or nightmare interpreted, I am always happy to throw in my two cents having worked with 100s of clients all around the world. Away from work I love to spend time in nature whilst raising three very active young boys.

What is Sleep Hacking?

Sleep hacking is the art and science of sleeping.

Admittedly, it’s not something that most people think about.

You get tired; you go to bed; you fall asleep; you hope to wake up feeling rejuvenated.

Sounds pretty simple, but it doesn’t always work that way.

Numerous studies show that fatigue is creeping in to our daily lives. Insomnia is on the rise and for many, the memory of a good night’s sleep is closer to a dream than reality.

Sleep hacking is an effort to create the optimal environment for restful sleep. That includes everything from the physical mattress we sleep on, to managing room temperature, to exploring meditation and mentally unwinding at the end of each day.

There is a lot we can do to sleep better!

On this site, you will find a selection of products and guides that are designed to improve your sleeping habits.

We cover the physical, mental and psychological elements that are conducive to restorative sleep. And we’re only just getting started.

With the arrival of apps and gadgets that interact directly with our bodies, technology is opening up a brand new frontier of sleep hacking

It won’t be long before we have alarm clocks that wake us up at the optimal moment; to avoid hitting that snooze button; or ambient music that adapts to what our brain is thinking and mutates to send it off to sleep.

From a geek’s perspective, it’s a pretty exciting time to be sleep hacking.

But for many people, this pursuit goes beyond mere curious experimentation.

There are real problems we’d like to conquer:

  • Bad backs
  • Aches and pains
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia

Sleep is one of those things that you don’t truly appreciate until you aren’t getting enough of it.

What would you give for the perfect night’s sleep?

This blog is our attempt to help you get much more of it.

Enjoy the site!
