HTS Verdict

The Serenia Sleep Plush Gel Memory Foam Mattress is definitely a good buy for people looking for a plushly comfortable mattress at an affordable price.

It’s wonderfully soft but still sleeps cool, has minimal motion transfer and even relieves any pressure points on your body. I’d have liked to have seen more support to recommend this to heavier people and those that need more specialist support for injuries.

Pros

  • Plush comfort
  • Sleeps cool
  • Relieves pressure points
  • Minimal motion transfer
  • Bed-in-a-box delivery
  • Affordable price
  • 10 year limited warranty

Cons

  • Needs more support for heavy people and those with injuries
  • Lacking in edge support
  • Heavy

The Serenia Sleep Quilted Sculpted Plush Gel Memory Foam Mattress (available on Amazon) is a good pick if you’re looking for a thick, luxe mattress on a budget.

With 5 layers of memory foam and an impressive 4 inches of gel, you can be sure of a cool night’s sleep while your body is gently cradled.

While that all sounds very appealing, I’m not convinced that side sleepers will love this bed, and the edge support is a little lacking too.

Let’s deep dive into all the pros and cons so you can see if this is the right mattress for you.

The Positives

Plushly Comfortable

Let’s get one thing out of the way fast — this bed is soft. If you want a firm base, you’re going to want to look elsewhere.

But if you’re a fan of the plush feel, there’s a good chance you’ll love the Serenia Sleep Plush Gel mattress. It feels luxurious rather than giving you that sinking feeling that some cheaper soft mattresses have.

It’s definitely effective at easing pressure points and I don’t think you’ll be waking up with aches and pains — unless you’re someone that craves a bit of firm support.

Breathable and Cool

Memory foam has a reputation for retaining heat during the night, which it struggles to be rid of throughout the day. As a result, you can wake up feeling sweaty and uncomfortable instead of refreshed.

Luckily, the Serenia has a layer of gel which saps the heat away from the foam and away from your body.

The third layer of Smart Temp foam then helps dispense with this heat, so the gel doesn’t carry it over to the next night. All in all, it ensures the bed remains cool even on warm summer nights.

This is especially great for those of us living in warmer climates or who sleep hot. No waking up sweaty!

Multiple Contact Points

Serenia Sleep 14 Inch Quilted Sculpted Plush Gel Memory Foam Mattress

If your mattress has you waking up with aches, pains, and overall misery, upgrading to the Serenia Plush mattress may just be your saving grace.

Thanks to its unique combination of layers, you can be assured of a reasonably supported night sleep.

Since the base layer provides a great deal of support, you’re not at risk of sinking too far into your mattress, but the micro touch points of the second layer help cradle your body.

This ensures better spinal alignment throughout the night and relief to your aching joints.

To be clear though, this isn’t the most supportive mattress I’ve slept on and people with injuries, back pain or who simply require a little more support, it may be worth looking at something a little more specialist.

No Motion Transfer

The moment you begin sharing a bed, there’s always some fear that your bed partner is going to be keeping you awake at night. With low motion transfer, this is a worry of the past.

The best memory foam mattress is the one that lets you wiggle to your heart’s content without disturbing your partner, and we’re happy to note that Serenia Sleep has succeeded in making this a reality.

If you’re used to your partner waking you up with their stirring, or if you’re on differing sleep schedules, you’ll definitely be a fan of this minimal motion transfer mattress.

Easy Delivery

Most of the mattresses I review nowadays are a ‘bed-in-a-box’ style like this Serenia Sleep, but every once in a while I’ll have a traditional one delivered and remember why I appreciate the bed-in-a-box format so much.

It’s delivered straight to your door compressed and rolled in a mid-size box that you simply need to carry to the room of your choice.

Lay it on the bedframe, open it up and wait for time to do its work. Within hours, you’ll have a fully expanded mattress on your hands.

Serenia recommend leaving it for 2 days for full expansion, but I thought it got there significantly quicker than that — within a couple of hours easily.

One thing to note is that it is a heavy box, so get a friend to help out if you live alone and don’t lift weights.

Great Price

Serenia Sleep mattress review

At 14 inches thick, comfortable and cool, I was expecting the Serenia Sleep Plush Gel to have a much higher price tag than it actually has.

It’s not a perfect mattress — as I’ll discuss shortly — but it’s certainly a pretty good one. And undeniably attractive with its low price tag.

This is definitely a good choice if you’re looking for something luxurious that won’t break the bank.

The Negatives

Needs More Support

best memory foam mattress

I would have preferred the Serenia Sleep Plush have a little more support to it to make it a truly great mattress.

As it stands, while it’s very comfortable, it won’t be supportive enough for heavier people, those with back pain or any other injury that needs a little more specialist support.

If you don’t fit into any of those categories and like a plush mattress, however, you’ll be rocking and rolling with the Serenia Sleep.

Edge Support is Lacking

And on that note, I think most people will find that the edge support is really lacking unfortunately.

This isn’t a mattress for sitting on the edge of the bed putting on socks. This might be something to consider if you roll around a lot in your sleep too.

It’s simply retained its softness all the way through the mattress. A more expensive, better engineered soft mattress would have reinforced the edges to stop this from happening — take a look at the Sealy Response Premium if you want to see something like that.

Heavy

At just under one hundred pounds for the Queen configuration, this is a mattress that will take some effort to move.

Luckily you won’t be dragging it upstairs or from your car, thanks to the easy delivery, but if you ever need to move your bed to another room or home, it will be cumbersome.

As I mentioned before, it might be best to enlist a friend or neighbor to help — especially if you need to get it up a flight of stairs.

Can't be Flipped

Maybe I’m being petty, but I would have really liked to have the option to flip the Serenia Sleep Plush occasionally.  Flipping a foam mattress every 6 months helps to prevent sagging and just generally helps to freshen things up.

Unfortunately this isn’t an option as the layers have been carefully arranged to provide optimal comfort and support.

Not a dealbreaker but something to be aware of for sure.

Material Composition

Fiber Quilted Cover
The first layer is the one you will be in contact with, which is why special care has been taken in creating a fiber quilted cover with soft foam to ensure that your skin is not stressed during sleep.
Gel Memory Micro Touch Foam
The real work begins in the second layer, with two inches of gel memory micro touch foam. This second layer contains more touch points than other types of foam, allowing for a better distribution of your weight. This creates the feeling of gently sinking into your mattress, without putting too much pressure in one specific point.
Smart Temp Foam
The third layer consists of one-inch smart temperature foam. This Smart Temp foam allows your body heat to dissipate faster into the mattress while being extra breathable — it’s 20 times more breathable than standard memory foam. This makes it easier to fall asleep no matter what the room temperature is. Because this layer still contains foam, it also functions as an added support layer.
Active Response Foam
Our fourth layer is one and a half inches of Active Response Foam. This layer makes it effortless to move in bed without needing to fear motion transfer.
High Density Base Foam
The final layer gives the Serenia Sleep Plush its height and last benefits; eight inches of dense foam. This foam aids in proper spinal alignment, but also gives you an added plush experience.

Serenia Sleep: The Brand

Serenia Sleep has been located in America ever since 70s, but they haven’t been sleeping on the job. With their fiftieth anniversary looming on the horizon, this company has spent their waking hours devising the perfect mattress for every occasion.

By cutting out the middleman as often as possible during their manufacturing and delivery process, they keep costs low and the quality high.

Their top aim is making sure everyone gets to experience a quality sleep since a good night’s rest is the best way of starting your day.

Their Serenia Sleep 14 Inch Quilted Sculpted Plush Gel Memory Foam Mattress is the best foam mattress they’ve produced to date, and they’re sure it will bring you sweet dreams.

They’re so convinced of this that they’re offering a 30-day return without asking questions.

Overall Verdict

The Serenia Sleep Plush Gel Mattress is a good buy for anyone looking for a luxuriously soft mattress on a budget.

It’s plush, sleeps cool and is undeniably comfortable. Plus it’s got all the usual convenience of a bed-in-a-box when it comes to delivery.

It’s not quite supportive enough for heavier people or those with back pain and other injuries in my opinion. Plus the edge support is really lacking. Only you’ll know if that’s a dealbreaker for you.
