Sleep Master Ultima Comfort Memory Foam Rated
Hack To Sleep Rating
It’s no wonder that this is one of the world’s best selling mattresses: 3 layers of innovative, high quality foam provide a comfortable and reasonably supportive night’s sleep, while there’s no arguing with the incredible low price.
There are a couple of caveats to my recommendation: it doesn’t have the longevity of more expensive mattresses and isn’t the best choice for bad backs or heavy people, but is undoubtedly a brilliant all-round choice for people on a budget.
- Very comfortable
- Lots of thickness options
- Soft cover
- Sleeps cool and dry
- Easy shipping and set-up
- Excellent price
- Minimal motion transfer
- 10 year limited warranty
- Might sag a little over time
- Not enough support for bad backs or heavier people
The Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam Mattress (available on Amazon) is one of the premier budget mattresses on the market today.
And it’s incredibly popular.
That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. It’s highly comfortable and is just generally of a quality that isn’t expected in this very low price range.
It’s not perfect — it doesn’t have the longevity of more expensive mattresses and the level of support isn’t quite enough for sleepers with back problems.
But it’s definitely a great, all-round mattress that will suit the majority of sleepers without these issues.
Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam Mattress Review
- 6, 8, 10 or 12 inches thick
- Medium-firm feel
- Comprised of high density base support foam, comfort foam and memory foam
- Poly Jacquard cover
- Requires 48 hours for expansion
- 10 years limited warranty
With a plush top cover encasing the memory foam composition, it’s almost guaranteed that you’re going to have a comfortable night’s sleep on the Zinus Ultima Comfort.
It’s definitely on the firmer side and so might be too extreme for people who prefer a softer night’s sleep, potentially including side sleepers.
The top memory foam layer really works to provide comfort and pressure relief on your body. You’ll find it conforms easily and naturally to the contours of your shape, while the middle comfort foam layer relieves pressure points and helps to align your spine and neck.
One of the first compromises you usually face with a cheap memory foam mattress is that it’s probably going to get very hot during the night — leading to sweating and general discomfort.
I’m really happy to report that this isn’t the case with this mattress.
Unlike other memory foams, the BioFoam used here has replaced some of the petroleum content with a natural plant oil instead. This keeps the mattress fresh even if you are a sweaty sleeper, and doesn’t jack the temperature up like some mattresses can.
Every time I order a mattress online, I thank my lucky stars that we live in an era of smart shipping and vacuum packing!
Remembering the times when we had to buy a mattress in the store, wait weeks for it to be delivered, before having delivery men chip your banisters as they fought to get it up to our bedroom… bad memories.
The smart shipping offered with the Zinus Ultima is really one of the best I’ve encountered. Shipping was fast and efficient, with the tightly rolled compressed mattress pack delivered directly to our door.
Always remember not to release your mattress from the pack until you’ve positioned it in its destination room, as this bad boy expands quickly.
Zinus recommend that you wait 48 hours for it to expand to its full capacity, although we’re pretty sure it was there in at least half the time.
Here’s a great video on the unboxing process for the Zinus Ultima, which should give you some idea of how easy it is to set up and how quickly it expands.
Probably the most attractive feature on this Zinus Ultima Comfort mattress is the fact that it’s so damn cheap.
I know that there are plenty of low-cost mattresses available nowadays, but this one really and truly represents great value for money thanks to its fantastic quality.
It’s always a gamble buying a mattress online where you can’t test it out beforehand, but it’s hard to quibble when you’re saving so much cash this way.
If you’re on the fence, we recommend checking out some of the hundreds of customer reviews available for the product on Amazon.
While it’s not the same as testing out the product for yourself, peer reviews should give you some idea of whether it will be suitable.
- No horrible off-gassing smell
- Minimal motion transfer
- Conforms well to the body and reduces pressure points
- No slip on the bed frame
- CertiPUR-US certified
Unfortunately, it’s not all roses with this memory foam mattress and you will need to accept some compromises.
Here are a few issues that I think are worth considering before you buy:
One of the compromises that you generally always have to accept with cheaper mattresses is that their longevity is simply not on a par with more expensive products.
While you’re likely to get more than a good few years out of the Zinus Ultima Comfort, you should be prepared to experience some sagging and a decrease in support as the years go by.
Some people haven’t found this to be an issue, whereas others have had to supplement the mattress with a topper to restore the support and then some.
Having said that, there is a 10 year limited warranty on this mattress. Although if you read carefully – sleep-master-memory-foam-mattress-warranty – you’ll see that it doesn’t cover the ‘normal increase in softness in the foam’, nor ‘a lessening of the gradual recover aspect of the foam.’
The Zinus Ultima Comfort mattress has had mixed reviews from buyers with bad backs.
Some love the firmness of the mattress and claim that it’s helped to correct their posture while sleeping and so reduces back pain upon waking. The memory foam is designed to relieve your body’s pressure points by distributing your weight evenly about the mattress and not allowing it to become concentrated in one place.
However, some sleepers have found that while the overall firmness is good, the base foam doesn’t offer enough dense support to properly handle their existing back problems, particularly in the lumbar area.
As such, I probably wouldn’t recommend this mattress for sleepers with existing problems in that area.
If you do have back problems and are looking for a reasonably priced mattress online, check out the Sealy Response Premium and the Tuft & Needle Mattress instead.
In tandem with the above is the fact that there’s not really enough support here for particularly heavy people — especially if you care about longevity.
Zinus are upfront about this, however, and advise that the Twin mattress is best suited to someone under 250 lbs and the larger mattresses to a combined weight of under 500 lbs. I think this may be a little generous — 200 lbs for the Twin and a combined weight of under 400 lbs for the larger mattresses may be a more appropriate guide.
Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam Mattress: The Details
This is for the Queen, 12-Inch configuration.
- Product Dimensions: 80 x 60 x 12 inches
- Item Weight: 63.1 lbs
- Available in: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Short Queen, Queen, King and California King, and in 6″, 8″, 10″ and 12″ thicknesses
The 12-Inch Queen Zinus Ultima Comfort mattress is blessed with a three layer design:
- 3 inches BioFoam memory foam
- 3 inches pressure relieving comfort foam
- 6 inches high-density base support foam
The smaller styles of this mattress have only a two layer design, which does away with the 3 inches of pressure relieving comfort foam.
If your budget can allow, I’d suggest splashing out for the 12 inch configuration, as this is the one that offers the maximum in both comfort and support.
The mattress is topped off with a super soft knitted Jacquard cover.
And I mean soft.
Seriously. For many people, it’s actually the highlight of the mattress.
The base foam has been certified as CertiPUR-US®, which means that it meets the certification body’s standards for durability, carbon emissions and content after rigorous testing by independent laboratories. The accreditation guarantees that the base foam has been made without formaldehyde, heavy metals (including mercury and lead), flame retardants and ozone depleters.
This is the gold standard for mattresses and something you should prioritize when buying.
The BioFoam memory foam is infused with natural plant oils, which means the petroleum content of the memory foam is reduced.
This keeps the mattress fresh and reduces that horrible smell commonly associated with memory foam — they’re often pretty stinky once they’ve been unpacked.
Evergreen green tea extract and active charcoal are the particular plants used in the Sleep Master Ultima® mattress. Active Charcoal helps to absorb moisture and reduce any odors while the green tea neutralizes odors and keeps things cool and fresh.
Good news for sweaty sleepers!
The pressure relieving comfort foam layer does exactly what it says on the tin: relieves pressure points and adds an additional layer of support.
The Zinus Brand
It’s always a good idea to do a little brand research before you shell out any money for a mattress online.
You want to be sure that what you’re buying comes from a reputable company that treats their customers well.
Thankfully, the creators of the Zinus Ultima Comfort memory foam mattress are some of the best in the business.
Zinus are a well established manufacturer of mattresses and beds, utterly committed to pioneering new research and technology to bring you the best in sleep products.
Their prices are easy on the wallet too.
They have a slew of satisfied customers at their disposal and are one of the most popular and bestselling mattress manufacturers on Amazon, as you can see by the many reviews of the Sleep Master Ultima® mattress.
I would definitely recommend the Zinus Ultima Comfort mattress to anyone on a budget.
It offers a high level of comfort and adequate support in a low cost package. To top it off, it’s shipped quickly and easily direct to your door.
It’s not going to last forever and probably won’t be sufficiently supportive enough for sleepers with bad backs or a lot of weight, but it’s undoubtedly a good all-round mattress at a low price.Check Today’s Price on Amazon
