Sealy 8-Inch Bed in a Box Review

My main takeaway from all the Sealy mattresses I’ve slept on is how much they prioritize comfort. Happily, I had the same experience with the Bed in a Box.

It hits that perfect Goldilocks point of Medium-Firm where you feel well supported but there’s also a plushness to it giving it a luxury feel.

No matter your sleeping position, pressure points are relieved, muscle tension is relaxed and that sleeping on a cloud feeling is a reality.

Another thing Sealy always does well is providing support, no matter how cheap or expensive the product is.

With the Sealy 8-inch Bed in a Box, the layers of foam and the medium-firm composition result in a supportive mattress for those with joint and back issues. Because there are no springs in this bed, the pressure on your body will be greatly reduced.

The foam conforms to your shape and supports your back, neck, and sides. Whether you prefer a new sleeping position every night or have an old favorite, you’ll find the bed tailors itself to fill in gaps and cradle your body.

As a plus, there’s no worry of sinking in. The conventional foam provides a base layer that limits sinking, ensuring it will bounce back and continue to adjust for a long time.

The Sealy Bed in a Box also comes with something not many traditional beds include: a washable, removable cover!

Anyone who knows me knows that I place a big premium on mattresses with a removable cover.

If you get any stains on the mattress (from an accident or a midnight snack), you need only remove the cover and throw it into the washing machine.

No need to invest in a protective cover or resist eating in bed. Sealy make sure that clean-up is very easy.

Getting a mattress set-up in your house can be quite the task, but you don’t have to worry about the Sealy Bed in a Box.

In this regard, it truly lives up to its name. No need to schedule times for your mattress to be delivered. Once it arrives through the regular mail, just bring the compact box into your house and into the bedroom.

Then, slip the mattress out of the box. It will be rolled up. Place it on whatever frame or box spring you choose and unroll it.

Carefully cut the plastic, shipping labels, or other materials off the mattress, and watch as your new bed rises and forms into its normal shape.

It has a super quick expansion time of up to 8 hours as well, so you could be sleeping on your new mattress the same night it arrives!

Let’s not pretend that one of the most attractive features of this mattress isn’t the price. Sealy stands up with the best in bedding brands in the business, but they’ve opted to make the Sealy Bed in a Box affordable and easily accessible.

Those on a budget won’t have to dig too deep into their savings, and those looking for a temporary or occasional bed won’t have to shell out a ton of money on a mattress for just short-term use.

The included warranty takes a lot of the risk out of the purchase too, so all you have to worry about is getting this mattress on your base.

The Sealy can be placed on any foundation of your choosing. This means that you won’t have to upgrade your base along with your bed, saving you money and effort.

If you have an adjustable frame, no need to worry either, it will still  fit.

This is great if you’re looking to place this mattress in other unconventional places like a camper or a dorm room.

With a variety of sizes to choose from, you’ll be sure to find the one that works the best for your situation.

My one major bugbear with this mattress is that it can get a little warm — especially if you’re bed sharing.

It’s worth noting that I do live in a hot climate and definitely have an in-built preference for a cool bed so I’m probably a little more sensitive than most on this subject.

Don’t get me wrong, you won’t wake up feeling sweaty and it shouldn’t even disturb your sleep — just be aware that it’s not cool to the touch like some gel beds can be.

Trapping heat is a perennial problem with memory foam so, if that’s important to you, make sure you find a mattress that has been engineered to keep cool throughout the night.

At 8 inches, this Sealy Bed in a Box is definitely thinner than other beds in this price range.

I didn’t find this a problem — it’s very well engineered so it still feels very supportive and comfortable. It’s quite similar in this respect to other such affordable beds by prestige brands like the Casper Essential and the Nod by Tuft & Needle.

But if you’re looking for that super thick, luxury feel, you might want to look elsewhere.

Again, this shouldn’t be a dealbreaker, but you should expect a little off-gassing when first unpacking the Sealy.

This is another classic memory foam problem that clearly even the best brands haven’t managed to figure out yet.

It’s not too strong compared to other mattresses I’ve dealt with, but I’d definitely leave it to air for a couple of hours in a well-ventilated room if you’ve got a sensitive nose.
