The Puffy Mattress Rated
HTS Verdict
I highly recommend the Puffy Mattress for its universal comfort, impressive support, cool sleep technology and affordable, mid-market price.
Backing up its quality is the Puffy Lifetime Guarantee and a 101-night trial.
It is lacking a bit in bounce for my taste, but I definitely think it’s worth trying out if you’re in the market for an excellent foam mattress.

The Puffy Mattress (available on Puffy) is one of those rare mattresses that hits you with that ‘floating on a cloud’ feeling while also providing a good level of support.
Fully foam, the Puffy is popular with sleepers for its comfort level, not to mention that it stays cool all night — a tough feat to accomplish with a foam mattress!
It’s marketed as providing universal comfort no matter what position you sleep in — but is that true? I put it to the test to find out.
Let’s get straight into it.

The Positives
People like different things when it comes to mattresses. Some prefer to sink into their bed, while others prefer to stay a little higher.
Some sleep on their stomach, some on their back, and some on their side, and need their mattress to reflect these sleep positions.
The Puffy mattress is just about medium-firm, but the foam top is very adaptable to all sleepers.
They advertise the fact that the mattress is comfortable no matter where it’s placed, whether on a box spring, on a bed frame, or even just on the floor; you can place the mattress on whatever surface makes it even more comfortable for you, and it will adapt perfectly.
The comfort and adaptability of the Puffy mattress makes it an excellent choice even for couples who may prefer different feels in their mattresses.
In terms of sleeping position, I’d agree that you’d find comfort regardless of what position you find yourself in — the pressure relief is really fantastic. I’ve seen some people doubt if it’s firm enough for stomach sleepers, but as a belly sleeper myself, I can confirm I had a great night’s sleep on it and didn’t wake with aching hips.
I’m also pleased to report that it slept cool all night long — and I live in a warm climate so am a pretty good measuring stick!
People who have restless partners may be used to waking up frequently from their tossing and turning.
Most mattresses, especially spring-based ones, spread the movement, so when your partner is having a restless night, you might be as well.
The Puffy mattress fixes this. The foam used in the mattress construction keeps movement from disturbing anyone else, so restless sleepers no longer have to worry about waking up their partners.
It’s a great middle ground between sinking in too far, like with many memory foam mattresses, and shaking the whole bed, like with spring-based mattresses.
One of the most immediate things you’ll feel on the Puffy is the immediate weight it takes off your body. This is thanks to its incredible pressure relief in the soft top layer.
People with more complex support needs may find relief with the Puffy Mattress too.
Many people have issues with chronic pain, and their mattresses often don’t help.
Whether it’s joint issues, back pain, or neck pain, the Puffy mattress works with your body to relieve pain, helping with spinal alignment and joint pressure.
The cooling foam works to prevent tossing and turning, allowing you to get a restful night’s sleep.
Something I was gratified to find out in my research is the existence of Puffy’s donation program.
They donate one of their mattresses to a child in need for every 10 posts on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter that show you and your Puffy, tagged with their handle (@puffymattress) and #puffydonation.
Everyone deserves good sleep and it’s great that Puffy is helping that happen.
The Puffy mattress is made-to-order; foam mattresses compress and lose their form very easily, so Puffy makes the mattress once you order it, ensuring that it spends the least amount of time possible in a box.
Even without having the mattress ready to go, though, it still arrives in 2-5 business days, and shipping is free to the US and Canada.
Expect your mattress to arrive rolled and compressed in a box that will be easier to handle than a full mattress on delivery.
The box is very small, and the foam expands quickly due to the short compression time.
Here’s a video showing what the mattress looks like out of the box.
If you love your mattress, chances are, you’ll be spending a lot of time on it from sleeping, to lounging, and other relaxing activities.
If this is the case, it’s inevitable that your mattress might start to get a little dirty. Thankfully, the Puffy is equipped with a stain resistant cover that allows you to mop up spills easily.
You can also unzip and wash it if it needs a deeper clean.
Simply unzip the cover from the mattress, then it will be easy to toss it in the wash along with everything else on laundry day.
This also takes out the need to scrub your mattress with potentially harmful chemical cleaning agents making this mattress less of a fussy option.
Puffy offers the king of warranties with their lifetime promise to foot the bill for issues that may arise with your mattress.
With this warranty, should you find any craftsmanship or manufacturing errors on your Puffy mattress, Puffy offers to replace your mattress with a brand new one, free of charge during the first ten years of ownership.
After the first ten years, Puffy offers to repair or replace your mattress if you spot any manufacturing faults.
- 101 night trial
- CertiPUR-US certified materials
- Made in the USA
- Works on any frame or surface
The Negatives
There’s always a trade-off with mattresses that boast that ‘floating on a cloud’ feeling and with the Puffy, that’s a lack of bounce.
Thankfully, it doesn’t suffer with sinking like many pure foam mattresses (likely down to well-engineered transition foam) but there’s also not a huge amount of resistance either.
Essentially, bounce is great for, ahem, bed-time activities other than sleep where you need a little spring to the mattress. The Puffy is unfortunately lacking in this respect.
If you want a bit of bounce but still want to stick to an all-foam mattress, take a look at the Tuft & Needle Original Mattress which has been designed with this in mind.
Puffy Mattress: The Details
Specs
These specs are for the Queen-sized configuration.
- Product Dimensions: 60 x 80 x 10 inches
- Item Weight: 72 pounds
- Available in: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King
Material Composition
The Puffy mattress was created with over four years of development before being released to the public.
Their mattress is CertiPUR-US certified, meaning the foam is made without harmful chemicals such as mercury, lead, PBDEs, phthalates, and formaldehyde.
They also manufacture the mattress entirely in the United States, though they do ship worldwide.
The Puffy mattress has three layers.
The cover removes easily, allowing you to throw it in the washing machine should it get dirty. It zips around the bottom, keeping the zipper out of the way while also being accessible.
Puffy: The Brand
Puffy is one of the newer brands in the world of strictly-online mattress shopping.
The company was created specifically to make the most comfortable mattress possible. They only offer one type of mattress using their memory foam, as they believe it’s the perfect mix.
Puffy realizes that buying a mattress off the internet can be an uncertain endeavor, and offers as much as they can to soothe those fears.
They manufacture the mattress entirely in the United States, which means no shipping to and from cheaper manufacturing areas; they offer free shipping in the US and Canada; and they provide a 101-night trial period, so you can return the mattress free of charge if you end up disliking it.
Better yet, all returns are either recycled or donated to local charities!
Puffy is clearly devoted to giving people a restful night’s sleep. They even offer a lifetime guarantee on their mattresses, which is a stunningly long warranty in comparison to most other brands.
Overall Verdict
To say I’m impressed with the Puffy Mattress would be a huge understatement.
This is one of the most universally comfortable mattresses I’ve ever tried and certainly punches above its price tag.
Comfortable, supportive, cool and easily washable, it’s honestly hard to find too much to fault here.
One area I would like to see some improvement is the lack of bounce, but this is a small price to pay for what is otherwise an excellent choice for a foam mattress.
