PrimaSleep Wave Mattress Rated
H2S Verdict
I highly recommend the PrimaSleep Wave Mattress if you’re looking for a memory foam mattress at a fantastic price. It’s the ideal mix of plush comfort and support.
Just bear in mind that it’s worth using it with a mattress topper and/or cover if you want to prolong its lifespan.
Pros
- Very comfortable
- Supportive
- Fantastic low price
- Sleeps cool
- Minimal motion transfer
- Quiet
Cons
- Cover isn’t removable
- Quite soft — not suited to those who prefer a firmer mattress
- Shortish warranty of 1 year
The PrimaSleep Wave Gel Infused Memory Foam Mattress (available from Amazon) is one of the most popular cheap memory foam mattresses on the market today.
It’s comfortable, supportive, and breathable with a cooling gel, so you’re kept at an optimum temperature throughout the night. What more could you want?
Well, maybe a couple of things — it’s certainly on the softer side so sleepers who prefer a firm base probably won’t love it. Plus the cover can’t be removed. I’d consider this a minor flaw though in what is otherwise a fantastic value mattress.

The Positives
With the four layers of foam and the soft mattress cover, this PrimaSleep Wave is designed to prioritize comfort.
The convoluted and gel-infused foam work together to cradle your body, so that each time you lay down, it conforms to your unique shape.
With the foam gently holding your joints, hips, shoulders, and back, you can settle in for a soft sleeping experience.
Comfort is important – but not if you sag into a pit. The two layers of Dura HD supportive foam work to provide a strong foundational layer beneath the softer tiers. This ensures that, while you can enjoy a cradled sensation on the top layers, the bottom layer keeps you firmly supported.
As such, pressure is kept exactly where it’s needed, while the gentle layers reduce pressure points and improve your night’s sleep.
The top layer is particularly soft and you can sink into that outermost layer of foam very easily. The lower layers are firmer, to avoid the feeling of being entirely swallowed in foam. The combination of softer and firmer foam layers creates a cushioned and comfortable resting place.
Memory foam is notorious for retaining heat, but the PrimaSleep has countered this issue with its gel-infused foam layer. This gel-filled foam wicks away the heat and retains cool temperatures, so those who sleep hot can enjoy relief throughout the night.
If you have a warm summer evening, you’ll still lay down on a cool mattress that remains consistent in temperature.
As a bonus, the Wave title rings true; the mattress is designed to be breathable, so fresh air is cycled in to dispel gathered heat.
If you live in a warm place or tend to sleep warm, you may have avoided memory foam mattresses for that exact issue — the heat retention. If this has been holding you back, the PrimaSleep may be a great option for you to try since it does have the gel-infused foam.
Without the gel foam, most memory foam mattresses do feel very warm, but with the help of this cooling layer you can sleep comfortably throughout the night. Even if you suffer from hot flashes, the infused foam can help regulate temperature and ease your discomfort.
If you’ve been shopping for a memory foam mattress, you know they’re rather expensive. Buying a quality one for under $500 is all but impossible – and that’s what makes this such an extraordinary deal.
The PrimaSleep Wave mattress costs less than two hundred dollars. You can enjoy cradled comfort, support, and cooling gel for pennies in comparison to other leading brands.
With some beds, getting up in the night, tossing and turning, or rolling over is a noisy affair. Since this bed is composed entirely of foam, with no loud springs, that’s not a problem. It will generate little to no disturbance. As such, you’re not in danger of waking up your partner from the creaking sound of rising.
Another positive aspect of memory foam is that there is little to no motion transfer. If you regularly share your bed with another person (or a pet or two!) you know that movement during the night can be disturbing to getting good rest.
With a memory foam mattress, the movement is generally absorbed by the foam and does not transfer across the bed.
If you or your partner has a habit of late night bathroom or kitchen trips, the absorbent memory foam could make all the difference in helping the sleeping partner continue sleeping while the other person gets in and out of bed.
Quiet, undisturbed sleep is possible with the PrimaSleep mattress. Now, if your bed partner snores or talks, that’s a different problem, but squeaky springs and bouncy disturbances can be a thing of the past with the multiple layers of memory foam within this mattress.
The Negatives
Sadly, the cover is not removable and, therefore, cannot be washed. The layers are not designed to cling together without the cover, so if it’s removed, you’ll permanently damage the bed and will need a replacement.
As such, this may not be the best choice for those who may wet or stain the bed, as it’s more difficult to clean.
Should you spill a drink or create a mess with a midnight snack, you can always spot clean the bed with a damp towel or gentle cleaning products.
While this mattress is covered and doesn’t technically require a separate mattress pad or cover, it’s not a bad idea to use a secondary cover. Since the one that comes with the mattress is non-removable and therefore harder to clean, you may save yourself some headache if you have an extra layer to prevent accidents and messes.
This mattress is definitely on the soft side. With that in mind, if you prefer extra firmness or simply dislike a great deal of cushion, then the PrimaSleep Wave may not be for you.
However, too-soft and too-hard are usually subjective opinions. At such a low price, it may be worth purchasing this bed alongside a firmer mattress topper to balance out the comfort levels.
One helpful piece of information about the softness of this mattress is that the edges aren’t very sturdy for sitting. Some mattresses can basically double as a chair — this is not one of them. If you take a seat on the edge of this mattress, expect the foam to compress a little bit!
If you’re in the habit of sitting on the edge of your bed while you put on your shoes, for example, you may want to take it easy the first day in case the mattress edge compresses more than you’re expecting.
Memory foam is notorious for retaining a chemical smell from its manufacturing and shipping process. This will be strongest upon first unpacking, and require you to air it out for one or two days before sleeping on it. It will dissipate with patience.
However, if you’re especially sensitive to odors, then it may require extra time. Be sure to let it ventilate in a room with good airflow, and don’t throw out your old bed quite yet.
Because this mattress prioritizes plush comfort, I wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. At that angle, you need extra firmness to keep your spine from bowing or your head from sinking into the mattress.
The level of plushness in this bed won’t accommodate that. However, those who sleep on their sides or back will find it’s just the right fit.
Unlike more expensive memory foam mattresses, the PrimaSleep Wave only comes with a year’s warranty. Of course, you’d expect it to last for far longer than this (and it certainly feels durable), but bear in mind that you’re only covered for defects and damages in that first year period.
I think this is pretty fair given the low price. It would be natural to expect some sagging after a few years of sleeping on it every night. You could buy it again in two years and still be money ahead over the popular models!
A mattress topper could easily add a few extra months or years, should you find it dipping in certain areas over time.
If you’re looking for a mattress that’s guaranteed to last for a long time, this may not be the ideal choice. But if you are looking for an inexpensive option, the PrimaSleep Wave could be a great choice.
