HTS Verdict

If you’re looking for a super cheap and supportive mattress, the LinenSpa Memory Foam and Innerspring Hybrid may be the product for you.

It’s firm, cheap and smartly shipped although it doesn’t have the same comfort as a normal memory foam mattress (and watch out for the lack of edge support). But it’s a cracking deal for people on a budget.

Pros

  • Firmly comfortable
  • Supportive for all weights
  • Sleeps cool
  • Very cheap
  • Good bounce
  • Light and easy handling
  • 10 year warranty

Cons

  • Barely any memory foam
  • Edge support is lacking
  • Not a lot of soft comfort

The LinenSpa Memory Foam and Innerspring Hybrid Mattress (available on Amazon) is one of the most popular cheap mattresses on the market right now.

This bad boy is cheap. Especially when you consider the memory foam component.

There are plenty of reasons to swap your old and trusted spring mattress for a brand new memory foam one. But there’s also something to be said for holding on to the traditional: foam doesn’t always promise the same support, it can take longer to get used to, and the difference in price-range can be daunting.

For those out there debating the pros and cons of foam versus spring, the LinenSpa memory foam hybrid mattress might be the perfect mix.

It’s a balanced combination of time-tested quality and forward-thinking sleep technology. Striking a chord between comfort and affordability, this hybrid mattress offers a good option for those looking for the benefits of both without compromising either way.

Let’s take a closer look…

The Positives

Very Cheap

The LinenSpa hybrid mattress is seriously cheap. Like, double take-worthy cheap.

Impressive for any mattress, let alone a hybrid foam one.

It’s also available in sizes from Twin to California King, so you’ll be able to get the perfect size for your needs without breaking the bank.

Firm and Bouncy

best cheap mattress

One of the things I love about this mattress is how firm and supportive it is, thanks to the traditional inner spring engineering. I should note that I tried out the 8 inch configuration which is the firmest one they offer.

While this may not be appealing for sleepers seeking a soft and foamy night’s sleep, heavy people and those that suffer with bad backs will likely find a lot to love about the LinenSpa Memory Foam Hybrid.

Plus, it has a lot of bounce — ideal for, ahem, intimate activities and, you know, bouncing on the bed. This is something that’s often lost in traditional memory foam mattresses.

Can Handle Any Weight

Also thanks to the coils, LinenSpa’s hybrid mattress is one of the few foam mattresses that is designed to take any weight.

Rather than dip or indent deeply, the firm coil base gives a great pressure-point support while the foam itself shapes to the sleeper’s form — whether you’re 150 or 250 lbs.

Any mattress that strives to accommodate the wide range of sleepers I know is out there gets a thumbs up from me.

Plus, if you do find that you permanently indent the mattress to more than 1.5″, LinenSpa will have you covered under their generous 10 year warranty.

Light and Easy Handling

Once again, thanks to the hybrid quality of the mattress, this one ships at a light 56lbs.

This means that you don’t need to call your cousins, friends, and friends’ cousins to help you lift the thing into the bedroom.

By all means, you could carry it wherever it needs to go all by yourself, open the box, and watch the quick expansion happen.

It’s always impressive to me when companies are able to compress and roll an innerspring mattress like they are a 100% foam one.

Here’s a cool video of the unboxing process in action:

Breathability

If you’re looking for a cool night’s sleep, the LinenSpa Hybrid is a good option. The layered design combined with the springs allows the air to seamlessly permeate through the mattress while still retaining that memory foam soft feel.

Again, this is a feature that’s often lost with traditional memory foam mattresses.

So if a hot bed is what’s keeping you from taking the step from spring to foam, this mattress is most certainly a good option for you!

The Negatives

Memory Foam is Minimal

It’s a little bit cheeky how LinenSpa have declared the 8-inch configuration a memory foam hybrid when there’s only a small amount stitched into the cover. The layer of foam on top is actually just a comfort foam configuration, likely not meeting the density standards that it needs to be classed as memory foam.

I’ve heard other people describe the mattress as ‘an innerspring with a pillow top’ and this seems pretty on the nose to me.

That’s not to detract from the quality of the mattress — and they’re certainly not overcharging you for it — but it’s worth being aware that there’s not as much memory foam here as is suggested.

Dodgy Edges

Well, nobody’s perfect.

The edges of the LinenSpa Hybrid are not as firm as I’d like them to be: if you sit close to the edge, they have a tendency to collapse a little.

Remember that I warned you if you fall off the bed!

No Soft Comfort

While I agree with the many positive reviews that say the LinenSpa Hybrid is very comfortable, I do think it’s best suited to people who require or prefer a high degree of firm support.

If you’re looking for a mattress that will get you feeling like you’re sleeping on a cloud, this is not the product for you.

That’s not to say that it’s uncomfortable or that you can feel the coils, but it’s definitely quite firm. Go for the 10 or 12 inch configurations if you want something a little softer.

Material Composition

Oftentimes the trick with innovation is knowing how to combine the right amount of what we know has worked, and what we know will work. LinenSpa’s mattress design encompasses this concept exactly.

Memory Foam Quilted Cover

It starts with a soft 0.5” cover with memory foam quilted into its fabric. This is designed for immediate weight distribution and support.

Comfort Foam

The next layer is 1.5″ of foam, making for a firmer surface feel and minimizing pressure points. The combination of memory foam quilted into the cover, alongside the full foam layer, ensures a body conforming quality without any major sinking.

Spring Coil Base

The 6” spring coil base provides the soft foam with extra support and, this must be said, a jolly good (and quiet) bounce.

The coils are separated from the foam layer by felt pad that insulates the springs and adds to the mattress’ durability. All of this makes for excellent ventilation, the kind rarely found in a traditionally thicker foam mattress. This also means that you’ll never wake up sweaty in the middle of the night, flipping to the cooler side of the pillow while kicking off the blankets.

And, last but not least, LinenSpa’s hybrid mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified.

In other words: both the consumer’s health, and the environment in general were kept in mind during the production of the mattress. No excessive chemicals, no heavy metals, and no PDBEs, TDCPP, or TCEP flame retardants.

LinenSpa: The Brand

LinenSpa is a relatively young company, started in 2011, but has used the past six years to grow with impressive speed. This seems to be mainly down to their mission statement: good products for an even better price.

LinenSpa doesn’t market itself by excessive branding, but seems to let their mattresses — and unwavering customer support —speak for itself.

Your mattress didn’t arrive on time? Isn’t expanding like it should? Or perhaps the support or feel isn’t what you hoped it would be?

LinenSpa makes no exceptions: any complaint, worry, or idle question is answered quickly and expertly.

So, even if you’re unsure of whether or not the product itself will be right for you, you can be sure that LinenSpa will provide the information needed in the process.

They ship fast (3-5 days), they ship smart (vacuum-sealed in a portable box), and, any and all mattress impressions over 1.5” will be covered within the 10-year warranty mark.

Overall Verdict

Overall, I think that the LinenSpa Memory Foam and InnerSpring Hybrid Mattress is a clever little thing.

It manages to combine a lot of what’s great about spring mattresses with a lot of what’s good about memory foam — and it manages to do so at a did-I-hear-that-right price range.

It won’t be perfect for everyone, especially not for those looking for the full memory foam experience, but for those who are reluctant of getting rid of the traditional coil spring bounce — and yet are looking for a softer support at night — this hybrid might just be the compromising mix you’re aiming for.

And it’s hard to argue with that price…
