As committed sleep hackers, we’re willing to try more or less anything in a bid to get a better night’s sleep.

And it’s this unwavering commitment that brought us to The Unexplainable Store a few moons ago.

For those of you that are unfamiliar, The Unexplainable Store is an online marketplace of hundreds of audio recordings specialising in binaural beats and isochronic tones.

Don’t worry, we’ll explain what on earth they are in a moment.

These specialist audio tracks can enable you to train your brain to get better sleep, lucid dream, relieve anxiety and much more.

As you’ll see further down the page in our review, The Unexplainable Store is huge and comprehensive — a sleep hacker’s dream!

We assess life with a hefty dose of cynicism so we don’t buy into everything that this website claims to offer, but there’s no doubt that it’s a valuable resource for people looking to train themselves into sleeping better.

If you’re looking for the best prices on The Unexplainable Store, head straight down to our membership options section.

Let’s find out more…

What is The Unexplainable Store?

As you might guess from the name, The Unexplainable Store specialises in that which is unexplained.

There’s a distinct whiff of paranormal curiosity on the website and even their tagline — ‘Audio Brainwave Stimulation And Crystals’ — seems a little otherworldly for our sensible tastes.

the unexplainable store review

But at its heart, it’s a huge online store containing free samples, instant downloads, streaming and even CDs of audio tracks that can help train your brain.

Unlike many other stores selling binaural beats, each track is unique and is grouped under one of many categories, including health & hygiene, brain function, personal development, money & prosperity, and spiritual & metaphysical.

These tracks specialize in everything from deep sleep, lucid dreaming, meditation and combatting anxiety to some, frankly, more tenuous subjects: weight loss, getting rich, hair loss and impotency help, for instance.

Call us cynical, but we’re not sure an audio track is going to tangibly help you lose 20 lbs, become a millionaire and sort that bald patch.

But there’s no doubt that these tracks are effective in aiding sleep, relaxation and other exploration of the mind.

Binaural Beats

The Unexplainable Store specializes in selling audio tracks of binaural beats.

Binaural beats have long been used for brain ‘entrainment’. Entrainment is when the brain is exposed simultaneously to two unique sounds at different frequencies or rhythms, but after a period of time, these sounds interact and influence each other to the extent that their frequencies and rhythms synchronize together.

So binaural beats are audio tracks that transmit sound at one frequency into one ear and at a different frequency into another. You have to wear headphones in order for binaural beats to work.

They only work is there is less than a 40 Hz difference between the frequencies.

Let’s say you’re listening to a track that transmits 480 Hz into one ear and 490 Hz into the other. At this point, the brain will perceive a third frequency, which is the sum of the difference between the two frequencies — in this case, 10 Hz.

Your brainwaves then alter in response to this ‘new frequency’, and how they change depends on how big the new frequency is. You should choose your binaural beats audio track according to the difference in frequency as that will determine how it affects your brainwaves.

Here are the associated behaviors humans experience at different brain frequencies:

Type of BrainwaveFrequencyAssociated Behaviors
Delta Waves0.1 to 4 HzDeep, slow wave sleep
Theta Waves4 to 8 HzMeditation and hypnosis
Alpha Waves8 to 14 HzRelaxed mental state
Beta Waves14 to 30 HzActive thinking and concentration
Gamma Waves30 to 50 HzMaximum sensitivity, conscious experience, transcendental meditation

So, as sleep hackers, we’re especially interested in binaural beats that can stimulate delta and theta brainwaves.

As we mentioned above, The Unexplainable Store is full of unique binaural beats audio tracks producing different frequencies — great for experimenting with to see which works best for you within a certain frequency range.

Isochronic Tones

Isochronic tones are a newer technology than binaural beats but are highly valued within the brain entraining community.

Unlike binaurals, isochronic tones transmit just one frequency to your brain which pulses on and off in rapid succession.

The tones are usually disguised under a piece of music, often classical — this makes them less audibly jarring than the binaural beats and also doesn’t require that you wear headphones.

Isochronic tones are a good way for beginners to enter the brain entraining arena.

It’s worth experimenting with isochronic tones and binaural beats to work out which work best for you. Thankfully, The Unexplainable Store have a huge array of both categories. You may find — like some of us — that you choose binaural beats for working with focus but prefer the relaxation offered by isochronic tones later at night when you’re trying to get to sleep. Or vice versa.

The Unexplainable Store has plenty of free samples of paid audio tracks for you to listen to and try out to test whether they might work for you before you buy.

What’s Available?

The hundreds, if not thousands, of recordings available on The Unexplainable Store are grouped under the following categories:

  • Spiritual & Metaphysical
  • Body Healing
  • Money & Prosperity
  • Health & Hygiene
  • Brain Function
  • Therapy Recordings
  • Personal Development
  • Adult subjects

And within each of these wide categories, there are unique recordings, chapters and packages for specific subjects, issues and states that you might want to achieve.

We were particularly focused on the recordings offered in the spheres of relaxation, jet lag relief, lucid dreaming, meditation and, of course, sleep.

Here’s a sneak peek of what the deep sleep program looks like:

And within the program, there are a number of different recordings to choose from, as well as a few multi-recording packagings.

For instance:

Or for people looking for a quicker fix:

The Unexplainable Store also sell crystals, claiming that they are “proud to present the world’s first Isochronic Crystal Activation Technology”.

This is frankly a little too far into the realms of the unexplained for us, but spiritual readers so inclined will likely find a wealth of information and products to interest them if they venture further.

The Pros

It’s Huge

The major positive to The Unexplainable Store is just how unbelievably comprehensive it is.

We haven’t seen anything quite like it in size, scope and sincerity — it’s a huge library of binaural beats and isochronic tones.

While our primary interest is in tracks that encourage sleep and relaxation, it’s easy to get lost in the wealth of other subjects and intentions they cover. For us, the ‘brain function’ recordings are really second to none.

Exceptional Quality and Clear Descriptions

There’s also no doubt that the audio tracks are of the highest quality with clear, tangible effects to be felt upon first listen. As you can see in the screenshots above, each track is accompanied by a description including length and the brainwaves that will be stimulated during the track.

You just can’t find this kind of quality and reliable information on free sites like YouTube. With The Unexplainable Store, you know exactly what you’re getting.

They Work

Without putting too fine a point on it, the tracks and packages we’ve tried out for sleeping and relaxation delivered exactly what they said they were going to.

It’s easy to write off binaural beats as simply pseudo-science, but there has been real scientific research behind their effectiveness for brain entrainment, ever since they were first discovered back in 1839.

Unlike say, meditation, there’s no need to practice listening to binaural beats to feel the effects — you should start to benefit as soon as you start listening.

We’re not sure we buy into all the health benefits touted by The Unexplainable Store (see The Cons below), but we’d be hard pressed to argue that the sleep and relaxation packs didn’t indeed send us into states of deep sleep and relaxation.

Other stuff we love:

  • The Isochronic tones are also available on CD, deliverable straight to your door
  • They offer a membership option with 35-60% savings on downloads and free streaming brainwave sessions
  • There’s a steady stream of new arrivals
  • Plenty of package deals
  • Mobile app for iOS and Android

The Cons

Binaural Beats for Acne Healing? Really?

While we can totally understand and buy into the tracks for altering brainwave functions, some of the benefits espoused by The Unexplainable Store seem a little off-kilter.

Tracks that claim to tackle medical problems like acne healing, heart function, allergy relief, impotency, immune system function and the like, seem to be more a case of psychosomatic wishful thinking rather than producing tangible results.

While there’s nothing necessarily wrong with experimenting with alternative ‘medicine’, we’d be concerned if people were replacing traditional medicine with these tracks.

Of course, that doesn’t take away the many positives of the majority of the tracks on offer at The Unexplainable Store, it’s just worth being aware of the limits of the benefits of binaural beats and isochronic tones.

Otherworldly Tone and Spirituality

It’s clear from just a quick glance at The Unexplainable Store that there’s an undercurrent of spirituality running through the website.

As well as the audio tracks and packages on offer, they also sell crystals and astrology readings. Some of the audio tracks they have belong to the ‘spiritual and metaphysical’ category too, with subjects like astral projection, telepathy, aura viewing, past life regression, Christ consciousness and spirit guide contact.

As borderline cynics who are primarily interested in the tangible here and now, this otherworldly tone doesn’t sit too well with us.

However, the quality of the tracks that are in our wheelhouse — sleep, lucid dreaming and relaxation — are good enough for us to look past this.

The Unexplainable Store Membership and Buying Options

Each track and package is available to buy with a single payment.

Prices vary widely between tracks, seemingly anywhere between around $5 and $25 per recording. Isochronic tone tracks are marginally more expensive than those of binaural beats.

Packages are also more expensive although offer greater value for money in terms of payment for the number of tracks included.

If you’re feeling old school CD orders also come with an $8 shipping fee.

By far the most cost-effective method of buying tracks from The Unexplainable Store — and especially if you plan on buying multiples — is to become a member.
