The Nod by Tuft and Needle Mattress is made up of three different layers. The first layer is three inches of adaptive memory foam. This is what keeps the mattress cool, provides bounce, and ultimately, makes you feel comfortable.
The next layer is five inches of high-density, base support memory foam. This does exactly what it describes: it supports your body, ensures your spine, neck, and hips are in proper alignment, and keeps you from sinking too deeply in the bed. After all, you want a plush cushion, not a deep pit.
The last layer surrounds the first two and is the polyester cover. It’s removable and washable, so if you happen to spill a midnight snack on the bed, there’s no danger of it staining the foam beneath.
The cover is thin enough to create airflow and keep the mattress cool, but thick enough to avoid immediately tearing in the wash.
That’s all fine and good – but how does it feel? The polyester is soft to the skin, but durable, ensuring it survives all the everyday wear and tear.
Tuft and Needle: The Brand
Tuft and Needle was founded in 2012 by Daehee Park and John-Thomas Marino in Phoenix, Arizona.
The business started after Marino and his wife felt they overpaid for a mattress. He then got together with Park and decided to start an e-commerce mattress company, making quality products for lower prices.
In September of 2018, Tuft and Needle merged with the mattress giant, Serta Simmons Bedding. In November of 2018, they introduced their partnership with Amazon to make the Nod mattress.
Besides mattresses, the company also makes bedding, bed frames, and seating.

Stand Out Features
- 100 Night Sleep Trial: While shopping at a mattress store means you only get about five minutes to test out a new bed, Tuft and Needle gives you a full 100 nights with their Nod mattress. This way you can decide if this bed is really what you’re after.
- 10 Year Warranty: After the long trial you’ll be covered under Tuft and Needle’s warranty for a ten years. This protects you should anything be at fault from the manufacturing process. If there is an issue, the company promises to replace your mattress so you can have less to worry about.
- Machine Washable Cover: On the tone of having less to worry about, the Nod mattress also comes with a knit cover that’s totally removable and machine washable. Come laundry day, just pop it off and toss it in the machine! As easy as pie!
We’re happy to report that the Nod by Tuft and Needle Mattress is actually super comfortable. The company uses their patented adaptive foam in every Nod mattress.
It takes the best features of memory foam and latex to ensure your whole body is cradled while you sleep. However, the specialized design helps reduce sinking, which is a common problem as memory foam ages.
The number one thing when it comes to looking for a bed is how comfortable it is. Fortunately, you’ll have no worries when it comes to getting a restful sleep with this mattress.
Very Supportive With Reduced Sinking
Speaking of an anti-sinking design, testers also enjoyed how supportive the Nod mattress is. The memory foam removes pressure from your hips, back, shoulders, and neck to ensure you don’t wake up with aches and pains.
The adaptive foam layer is there to provide comfort, but the support foam underneath ensures your body is in correct alignment, so you aren’t just sinking into the mattress. That means this mattress will come in handy when recovering from an illness or injury.
When your body is supported throughout the night, it results in a much better sleep overall. You’ll wake up less groggy and ready to tackle the day! So, not only will you be cradled to sleep by a cushiony, comfortable mattress, but you’ll be supported throughout the night too!
Sleeps Really Cool
Memory foam has a notorious reputation for absorbing and holding heat. If you tend to sleep hot, you’re at even greater risk of waking up in a pool of sweat each morning.
The Nod is therefore designed to overcome this issue. The layer of adaptive foam at the top of the mattress does just that: it adapts. This helps you stay comfortable during hot weather or warm, sticky nights.
Paired with the breathable cover, no matter the temperature of your bedroom, the mattress will stay cool and comfortable throughout your sleep.
A cool mattress really helps hot sleepers to stop tossing and turning throughout the night so they wake up less groggy and much more refreshed. You can look forward to that with the Nod.
Awesome for All Sleep Positions
While some mattresses work better for side sleepers or back sleepers, the Nod is comfortable and supportive no matter the position you like sleeping in.
The bed is firm enough for back and stomach sleepers, but soft enough for side sleepers who need the mattress to conform to their shape for extra support. This is especially great for couples, who may not share a preferred sleeping position, but who don’t want to sleep separately.
This opens up the Nod mattress to a variety of sleepers which is especially great for guest rooms and B&Bs. It won’t be hard for sleepers of all types to get a good night’s sleep on this bed.
No Motion Transfer
If you’ve ever been woken up by your partner getting out of bed, you know how annoying motion transfer can be. That is not a problem with the Nod.
We loved that there is very little motion transfer with this bed. You can place a bowl of cereal on one end of the bed, sit down at the other, and it won’t move or spill.
Of course, you may feel some transfer if you jump on the mattress or your partner is thrashing in their sleep, but otherwise, you won’t be disturbed.
This is perfect for partners who operate on different schedules, you won’t have to worry about being woken up without your alarm.
Surprisingly Affordable Price Tag
It’s hard not to talk about the appealing price tag of the Nod by Tuft and Needle Mattress – it’s one of the big highlights of this bed.
At under $500 on Amazon, this is a steal for a premium memory foam bed. Comparable mattresses may cost over twice that amount – if not thousands of dollars alone.
If you’ve been seeking a memory foam mattress, but couldn’t find room in your budget, this cost-effective price tag is very appealing. The company also gives you a 100-night trial and 10-year warranty allowing the money you pay to go so much further.
And if for any reason you need to contact customer service, their service department seems to be nothing but top-notch, responding to questions and concerns efficiently and effectively.
Iffy Edge Support
Be wary of sitting on the edge of the bed or rolling out too quickly, as testers found that the edge support left much to be desired.
The Nod doesn’t possess extra foam or perimeter support on the edges, so they may sink when sat on. While that’s not uncommon among memory foam beds, it’s still worth noting.
Granted, you won’t find hard spots when you lie closer to the edges, which is a plus. However, if you enjoy sitting on the edge to mentally prepare for the morning, you might sag right off.
Memory foam typically arrives with a chemical odor – and there is no way of getting around it.
The odor results from the manufacturing and shipping process. Airing it out for a couple of days is the only way to remove it.
It usually dissipates after 72 hours (if not sooner), but if you’re particularly sensitive to smells, memory foam may not be right for you.
A hybrid with foam and springs, or a traditional spring mattress, may be ideal for your needs, since less foam means less odor.

After going over all the positives and negatives, we do recommend the Nod by Tuft and Needle Mattress.
It’s comfortable, supportive, stays cool, and works for all sleep positions. What more could you ask for?
So long as you’re not worried about edge support and don’t have a problem with the odor lasting for several days, you should have no issues with this mattress. And at this price? It’s definitely worth giving the Nod a shot.
