Comfort and Support
At such a low price point, you’re not going to find particularly high levels of comfort and support in this Intex air mattress, but there’s no mistaking that it provides a relatively comfortable night sleep if you’re using it on a ‘now and again’ basis.
It’s certainly much more comfortable than a sleeping pad or mat that many people choose to camp outdoors with. This is partly due to the firmness that comes from the inflation, the plushness of the flocked top and the ability to use fitted sheets with the bed if you so desire.
This Queen size claims to be able to support a relatively large 600 lbs capacity (although individuals and couples nearing the weight limit have reported that the air mattress needed regular topping up and even the occasional patching).
The included inflatable pillows are an added comfort bonus too!
Support is minimal although, again, preferable to your usual thin camping pad.
How Easy is it to Use?
As you’d expect for an air mattress that can be used outdoors, there’s no one-touch internal pump in the Intex Classic Downy Airbed Set like many of the more hi-tec models boast.
It’s still easy to use though, requiring manual hand pumping with the double-quick pump that comes included. It’s a relatively quick process to inflate and deflate, helped by the 2-in-1 valve with an extra wide opening.
The pillows too are easily inflated, requiring the use of the thinner pump nozzle (you can use the larger nozzle for the mattress itself).
At just over 11 pounds, this air mattress isn’t quite lightweight enough to carry around for serious trekking or backpacking, but it’s certainly easy to make compact and transport for outdoor use and camping.
If it gets muddy or is subject to any spills, it’s super easy to clean — the top is waterproof so repels liquids easily while you can simply use a mix of soap and water to spot clean any other patches.
