Hack To Sleep Rating

Budget-conscious buyers will love the Dreamfoam Bedding Arctic Dreams mattress. It’s cheap, cool and comfortable.

It is a little lacking in edge support, however, and probably won’t be a good fit for side sleepers or people with bad backs..

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Sleeps cool
  • Excellent price
  • Good pressure point relief
  • Easy shipping
  • Relatively quick expansion
  • Made in the USA
  • 10 year warranty

Cons

  • Not enough support for bad backs or side sleepers
  • Edges may start to sag in time

Hey, this one’s for all you soft sleepers out there!

This Dreamfoam Bedding Arctic Dreams mattress (available on Amazon) is a great all-round mattress that provides a deliciously soft night’s sleep, with additional cooling comfort and memory foam support.

Plus it’s available for a very attractive price.

However, while I do like this mattress’ soft comfort, it’s not the most supportive out there — side sleepers and those suffering from back problems may need to look elsewhere.

[If that’s you, take a look at the Sealy Response Premium instead.]

But in the meantime, let’s explore all that I love and all that could be improved with the Dreamfoam Arctic Dreams mattress.

Here goes…

The Positives

It's Very Comfortable

cheap memory foam mattress

I think that the  Dreamfoam Bedding Arctic Dreams mattress manages to really hit the mark between plush softness and a firmer texture.

Unless you’re particularly fussy about exactly what comfort level you need in a mattress, you should be happy about the compromise that the Arctic Dreams offers.

O also really love the uber-soft quilting layer on the top of the mattress which lends it a lovely plush feel. It’s certainly one of those mattresses that leaves you feeling like you’re floating on a cloud, without having any of that sinking feeling that some softer mattresses have.

Will you find it hard to get out of bed in the morning? I wouldn’t be surprised!

Distributes Weight about the Bed

Although the level of support offered by the Dreamfoam Bedding mattress isn’t quite as much as I’d ideally like, the just over 6 inches of base support foam still works effectively to align your spine and neck.

This should mean that you’re not waking up tomorrow all bent out of shape with a crick in your neck!

It also works to distribute your weight evenly about the mattress, eliminating any pressure points and allowing for even more comfort.

Back and stomach sleepers are sure to love this aspect of the mattress — although side sleepers may require something a little more supportive. But I’ll cover that later.

Relieves Pressure Points

One of the things I love most about the Arctic Dreams is its ability to completely relieve any pressure points — something that all adds to the high comfort level of the mattress.

This is great news for anyone who likes to flop onto their mattress and have the aches and pains of the day simply float away.

Bliss…

Sleeps Pretty Cool

Hot spots and heat traps commonly afflict cheap memory foam mattresses, but I’m happy to report that this isn’t the case with the Dreamfoam Bedding Arctic Dreams mattress.

It definitely lives up to its name thanks to the cooling gel technology in the memory foam layer, which makes it cool to the touch.

Easy Shipping

Like most online mattress purchases, the Dreamfoam Bedding Arctic Dreams mattress is delivered in a relatively compact (if heavy) box direct to your door.

The mattress expands quickly upon unpacking so be sure to take it to the bedroom before you start assembling it.

Most buyers find it actually expands immediately, arriving at full size within around an hour, although the manufacturers suggest that you wait around 24 hours for it to reach its full expansion potential.

Excellent Price

Dreamfoam Bedding have ensured that this mattress is accessible to most people — even those on a budget — with its eminently reasonable price tag.

Considering the relative high quality of the mattress — plus the generous 10 year warranty — I was surprised at the price point. You certainly get a lot of bang for your buck here.

Minimal Motion Transfer

If you share a bed with your partner, you’ve likely been through the ringer at some point — waking each other up every time you get up to go to the bathroom and all. It’s always particularly bad if one of you is a still sleeper while the other one fusses and wriggles all night.

However, the expert engineering of the Arctic Dreams mattress could end any bedtime conflict between you. The clever Energex gel foam minimizes motion transfer, ensuring minimal disturbance throughout the night.

You’re definitely not going to be waking up every time your weak bladdered partner does!

The Negatives

Not Supportive Enough for Bad Backs

dreamfoam bedding arctic dreams mattress

The Arctic Dreams mattress has got a mixed reception from buyers with bad backs and I can see why.

While most people find it very comfortable and supportive, others have commented that it’s a little soft for their tastes and doesn’t provide enough spinal support when they’re sleeping on their sides. This may be worth considering if you’re a side sleeper or suffer from back pain.

At 10 inches thick, it’s a couple of inches shallower than more premium mattresses like the Brentwood Home Bamboo Gel Memory Foam, so it may be that it could just benefit from more support foam.

On the Soft Side

If you prefer a firm night’s sleep, chances are that you’ll find the Arctic Dreams mattress too soft for your sensibilities.

It’s pitched at a Medium firmness — which I think is correct — but thanks to the upper quilting layer, there’s a certain plushness to the texture which makes it feel softer than it truly is.

I personally don’t think this is a problem — if anything, it makes it even more comfortable — but if you truly prefer a less luxe firmness, you’ll likely not find it a good fit for you.

Side Sagging Over Time

One of the more annoying niggles that I have with the Dreamfoam Bedding Arctic Dreams mattress is the fact that it doesn’t hold up so well over time.

Some users have found that over the course of months and years, they found that the edges of the mattress began to sag and soften.

Although this hasn’t affected the integrity of the mattress body, it does mean that it will suddenly become much easier to roll off the side of the mattress… uh oh.

Material Composition

The Dreamfoam Bedding Arctic Dreams mattress is comprised of three layers, each of which offer specific sleeping benefits.

Quilted Foam
The top layer is a shallow, 0.75 inches of super soft quilting, lending a plush feel to the mattress — a highlight for those looking for a soft and luxurious night’s sleep.
Energex Gel Foam

Next is 2.5 inches of fast response Energex gel foam. This is an alternative to traditional viscoelastic memory foam that offers a quicker bounceback, yet with all the usual benefits of memory foam.

The bounce means it’s great for, er, “bedroom activities” other than sleeping, while the material also ensures to distribute your weight evenly about the bed and ease any pressure points you may have.

Most memory foam mattresses — especially the cheaper ones — have a very minimal bounce to them, so this is a really great and underrated feature of the Dreamfoam Bedding product.

As a bonus, the gel foam also provides a cooling effect, keeping you cool, ensuring continuous airflow and ensuring no heat traps. Great news for anyone who’s a bit of a sweaty sleeper.

Convoluted High Density Base Foam
The final layer is 7.5 inches of convoluted high density polyurethane foam, which provides the support and spinal alignment necessary for a supported night’s sleep.

The mattress is certified by CertiPUR-US, meaning that it’s made without flame retardants, ozone depletors, heavy metals, formaldehyde or phthalates, while meeting various standards for emissions, durability and content.

Dreamfoam Bedding: The Brand

Dreamfoam Bedding are a popular mattress manufacturer, proud of making every aspect of their products right here in the USA.

As well as the Arctic Dreams cooling gel mattress, they also offer an array of different models, made of either latex, memory foam and foam.

They also offer a 10 year warranty for any defects in their products and a handy 90 night trial, which allows you to thoroughly test out the mattress and make sure that it’s right for you. If it’s not, Dreamfoam Bedding will pick it up at no charge to you and will refund you too.

This is a very generous warranty and trial period for a mattress at such a low price. Dreamfoam Bedding are clearly standing behind their product.

Overall Verdict

Overall, I would recommend the Dreamfoam Bedding Arctic Dreams Mattress — it’s cool, comfortable, and very affordable.

I do think it’s lacking a little in support — most notably around the edges, but also in the body so it may not be quite adequate for people needing more robust support. It’s not a great fit for side sleepers either.

If you do have a little more room in your budget, I’d definitely take a look at slightly more expensive memory foam mattresses that have a little more support built into their engineering. But if you’re happy with the compromise and love the price, the Arctic Dreams should be a good buy.
