Stand-Out Features

This is much more than just your average camping pad…

  • Free Flow Valve:¬†Allows for self-inflation and deflation
  • Weather-Resistant:¬†Perfect for the outdoors!
  • Compression Straps:¬†Allow it to be rolled and transported easily and neatly

The Coleman Self-Inflating Camp Pad also benefits from the following features:

  • It’s¬†lightweight¬†and easy to transport
  • Super¬†comfortable¬†thanks to its tufted, cushion design
  • Very¬†durable¬†in all weathers

It’s worth mentioning that this is a camping pad, and not a traditional air mattress. With all the high spec features in the world, it will never rival a raised, coil system airbed for comfort and support.

With that in mind, there’s really only one minor negative to the Coleman:

  • The¬†pillow is not self-inflating¬†so you will need to inflate it manually

Is This the Best Air Mattress for Camping?

We think that the Coleman Self-Inflating Camp Pad is one of the contenders for the best air mattress for camping.

While nothing like a traditional air mattress, it offers a modicum of comfort and support while still being incredibly lightweight, convenient and transportable.

The tufted, cushion design is surprisingly comfortable and, while not exactly plush, a welcome relief for tired bodies at the end of a long day camping — especially when you’re all snuggled up in a sleeping bag on top.

An included pillow (which, admittedly, you have to inflate yourself) rounds off the comfort level quite nicely.

The free-flow valve allows for both automatic inflation and deflation, which is not only convenient but also gives this camping pad a nudge over its competitors as it raises your body around an inch off the ground, providing a degree of insulation from the cold floor. It might not be the raised bed that many traditional air mattresses boast of, but it’s a pretty good¬†compromise.

Aside from the comfort factor, there’s little doubt that the Coleman Self-Inflating Camp Pad is a worthy inclusion in any camping pack.

At around 5.5 pounds, it’s a lightweight addition to a rucksack and, deflated, can be compressed into the size of a tiny sleeping bag. The attached compression straps help to compress it further, squeezing out any leftover air and keeping it wrapped up tight until you need it next — ideal for backpackers.
