If there’s one product that’s at the top of every sleep hackers’ wish list, it’s the Casper Mattress.
Boasting universal comfort, a 4-layer foam construction and an oh-so-tempting 100 night trial period, this mattress is lighting up the industry like nothing before.
There are few things worse than coming home after a long day, slipping into bed, and feeling like you’re either resting on a diamond surface or on a sponge that’s trying to swallow you up. Luckily, the Casper Sleep Mattress comes with a pleasant middle ground that will have you sleeping soundly all night long.
Though, like any mattress, it has its imperfections — but don’t worry, we’ll be getting down to the nitty gritty details in no time…

It’s also available in Twin, Twin X-Large, Full, King, and California King.
The way the layers of the mattress are organized is a proper mix of innovation and comfort neatly wrapped up in polyester and polypropylene.
The top layer consists of 1.5″ of poly comfort foam. This layer has responsive latex embedded into it, which provides support, cooling, and bounce.
The second layer is 1.5″ of memory foam, which provides support and comfort. Memory foam usually has issues with heat retention and sinkage, but thanks to the cooler, firmer layer on top, the mattress truly accommodates to your weight and shape while still keeping the heat from enveloping you while you rest.
The third is 1.5″ of transition foam. This provides deep comfort through consistent weight distribution and provides a snug barrier between the top two layers and the base foam.
The last layer is 5.0″ of support foam, a base which props up your body so you don’t sink into the bed completely. It is a thick layer that provides firmness to those sensitive areas that are prone to soreness (like your shoulders, hips, and back), while the softer layers on top hug your form for peak coziness.
All the foam used in the mattress is CertiPUR-US approved, which means they are made without ozone depleters, PBDE flame retardants, mercury, lead and other heavy metals, formaldehyde, phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and other harmful substances.
The Casper mattresses are also vegan, so you can sleep well knowing you’re on a cruelty-free bed.
Casper Sleep: The Brand
The Casper Sleep experience isn’t just about buying and sleeping on the mattress. Everything from the presentation of the product to the customer service and the quality of the materials used speaks about the professionalism and seriousness of this brand.
We have founders Philip Krim, Neil Parikh, T. Luke Sherwin, Jeff Chapin, and Gabe Flateman to thank for this award-winning brand.
If we had to describe the Casper Sleep experience in one word, it would be this one: comfortable.
Not only does this New York-based company want to provide a reliable bed you can sleep on, it also wants to remove the hassles one faces when buying a mattress.
Casper provides one high quality model in six different sizes to remove the pains of choosing between different quality products, allowing you to focus less on finding the perfect mattress and more on finding the mattress that’s right for you.
It’s also reassuring to know that Casper cares about its customers. When it first launched, many people complained that the mattress felt too firm.
As a response, Casper would send out free latex mattress toppers to unsatisfied customers until they eventually incorporated the latex into the top layer of the mattress itself, solving design flaws and improving customer satisfaction in one go.
Casper Sleep Mattress Review
The Casper mattress certainly packs a punch in terms of features. Here are a few aspects that really stand out:
- Truly Comfortable: Not too soft, not too firm, plenty of support and bounce, and a cool breathability? Sign us up.
- 10-Year Warranty: As well as a fabulous 100 night trial, Casper offer an industry-leading 10 year limited warranty
- Award Winning: The mattress won one of Time’s 25 best inventions of 2015, and the Big Innovation Award 2016
It’s a challenge to find a mattress that doesn’t feel like you’re sinking into oblivion when you lie on it.
Thanks to the outstanding base layer at the bottom and the latex layer at the top, the Casper Sleep Mattress supports you no matter what position you sleep in — whether side, stomach or back.
Sleepers suffering from a bad back will really benefit from a night on a Casper mattress as it aligns your neck and spine into a naturally healthy position. No stiffness in the morning!
Soft ‘n’ Sweet
Many people have reported that their joints and backs stopped hurting once they began sleeping on the Casper mattress. This is due to the pleasantly firm memory foam between the supportive layers that cradles your body for maximum sleep comfort.
You sink into the bed snugly enough that you might not feel any harsh materials hurting your form, but lightly enough that whoever sleeps next to you won’t feel it if you move.
Any tender pressure points will be instantly relieved as the clever engineering spreads your weight evenly around the mattress.
Just the Right Temperature
No need to worry about waking up all sweaty in the middle of the night to turn the AC on. No need to worry about waking up to get an extra comforter during the winter either.
As you sink into the memory foam during colder seasons, the heat it retains will protect you from the cold. The only downside to this is that you won’t want to get up in the mornings!
Meanwhile, as you are supported by the top layer during warm nights, the cooling effect from the top layer of latex keeps the heat out.
As an added bonus, the latex layer is hypoallergenic too. No night sweats and rashes on the Casper!
Easy to Setup
The Casper Mattress comes in a mini-refrigerator-sized box, saving you shipping costs when it’s time to be delivered, and saving you backaches when it’s time to move it into the bedroom.
Once you unbox it and free it from the packaging, the mattress automatically uncoils itself and inflates in the span of a minute, ready to be slept on.
It’s so quick to expand, actually, that we’d recommend not opening it until you’ve got it into your bedroom — otherwise, it’ll be a feat of strength to hustle it up any stairs!
Environmentally Friendly and Practically Odorless
As we mentioned before, the materials in the Casper mattress are vegan and CertiPUR-US approved, meaning that they do not contain harmful chemical flame retardants and other damaging ingredients.
Unlike most mattresses in the industry, Casper uses water-based adhesive for laminating the foams rather than solvent-based adhesives, resulting in a mattress with less factory odor than its competitors.
Some buyers have complained that they spotted an odor upon first unpacking, but we thought that this was on the minimal side. Sensitive noses may beg to differ, however…
While the most important part of the mattress (the center) offers dependable support, the edges are rather lacking in this area. It’s spongier than the center of the mattress, so you need to be careful not to fall off if you’re sitting at the very edge of the bed.
Just a little reinforcement at the edges would really transform this problem and elevate the Casper mattress into a truly premium product. Engineers, take not!
Not For Heavy Sleepers
Although the Casper mattress can hold a collective weight of 450 pounds, we’ve found that you might have a problem with the mattress if you are a heavy sleeper — say, over 250-300 lbs.
The more weight you have, the more likely you are to sink right through the softer top layers and feel the firmer base layer underneath, resulting in a different sleeping experience than what others have said they’ve had.
Though the polyester cover on the top and bottom of the mattress is breathable and soft to the touch, the material is pretty flimsy and thin.
It can easily snag on to something and tear, exposing the foam layers under it, so it is best to handle with care if you want to keep your mattress pretty — and your warranty intact.
If you’re looking for a mattress that’s the proper blend between firmness and softness, the Casper Sleep Mattress fits the bill.
We highly recommend it to anyone who can’t seem to get a good night’s rest with their traditional memory foam mattress.
It’s not perfect — we wish the edges and cover were a little sturdier — but you should feel confident in at least trying the product with that fantastic 100 night trial period.
