BedStory Gel Hybrid Mattress Rated
- Good for Bad Backs?
The BedStory Gel Hybrid Mattress is supportive, comfortable, affordable and convenient. There’s not much that could go wrong with this bed!
With just a few cons to consider (which may be a bigger deal for some than others) chances are the pros will outweigh the cons on this one.
Have you been shopping around for a new mattress, but without any luck finding the perfect one for you? Or maybe you can’t decide whether a spring coil or a memory foam mattress will work best?
The BedStory Gel Hybrid Mattress could be your ideal pick. It has multiple layers of memory foam and spring coils combined, making it both comfortable and supportive.
It stays cool while you sleep on it, and if your partner wakes up at night, you don’t have to worry about motion transfer.
That being said, not everyone fell in love with this hybrid mattress. Some users disliked its strong odor, were discouraged by the bed’s sinking edges, or didn’t appreciate that this BedStory did not expand to the breadth advertised.
Nevertheless, before you make your final decision, let’s take a closer look at the BedStory Gel Hybrid Mattress.

The BedStory Gel Hybrid Mattress is composed of multiple layers of foam and coils, which lay on top of each other to make up the 10-inch thickness.
The bottom layer is 7.8 inches of pocketed spring coils with a ½-inch layer of Dunlop latex foam on top of that.
Next comes the ⅔-inch-thick layer of soft comfort foam and then a ⅕-inch layer of Air Cycle foam. These are designed to boost your comfort and ensure the mattress remains cool throughout the night.
The final layer includes a fire resistant barrier for safety, and all of the layers are surrounded by a soft and stretchy knit cover.
While the cover isn’t removable like some other mattresses, you can still easily spot clean it, using a light detergent mixed with some water. Let it dry and the stain should be gone.

- 10-Year Warranty: BedStory has its customers’ backs by offering a long 10-year warranty. This protects customers against any damages caused by manufacturing and also helps customers rest a little easier.
- Antimicrobial: If you have a case of the sniffles and sneezes, this mattress won’t be the reason it gets any worse. It’s hypoallergenic thanks to its latex layer, keeping dust mites, allergens, and mould at bay.
According to most testers, the BedStory Gel Hybrid Mattress is very supportive – and not just for a certain kind of sleeper.
It works equally great for back, side, and stomach sleepers which means that it’s pretty much supportive for everyone!
The different layers of foam and the pocketed coils ensure that the mattress conforms to your body, as memory foam is designed to, while the coils ensure it’s not too soft, leaving you to sink deeply into the cushioning.
A supportive bed also means your mattress will be the perfect place to recover after a long, strenuous day, or if you’re recovering from sickness or injury.
You’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep, without danger of waking up with aches and pains as the memory foam conforms to your body. This BedStory mattress will ensure you rise on the right side of the bed (pun intended) and start off your day right.
Users mentioned that this hybrid mattress is not just supportive – but also comfortable.
The different levels of foam envelop the coils to prevent any sharp edges, while also molding to your body for personalized cushioning.
The soft knit cover means you can sleep on the mattress without a sheet and still feel like you’re enjoying a luxury. This also makes your mattress all the easier to clean, so you don’t have to worry about having a late night snack in bed.
And since it doesn’t matter what position you sleep in, there’s no need to adjust your sleeping preferences to make this bed work for you. It will be comfortable if you sleep on your stomach, back, or side.
The mix of the spring coils and the memory foam ensures nearly anyone will find this mattress comfortable for them.
There’s no worry of the mattress growing hot while you sleep on it. There are multiple breathable layers that ensure it stays cool even on the hottest of nights.
The knit cover is made of a breathable material, and there is a 1.5-inch layer of Air Cycle foam that encourages airflow throughout the mattress, releasing warm air and cycling in cool air. No more waking up in a pool of sweat!
Memory foam is notorious for getting very warm when slept on, but due to the construction and materials BedStory used for this mattress, that is not an issue here.
This is great news for those who tend to sleep warm, and those that live in warmer climates. Your mattress won’t be the reason you’re lacking a good night’s rest.
While some mattresses with springs can have issues with motion transfer, based on tester feedback, that isn’t a problem with this BedStory mattress.
If you’ve ever been woken up because your partner is tossing and turning or because they had to go to the bathroom, you can rest easy – this BedStroy is highly stable.
If your partner has an earlier wake-up time than you, you won’t feel them shift off the bed. The coils all move independently of each other, so pushing down on some of the coils won’t affect the others. There is no motion transfer.
Convenient to Set Up
Not only does the knit cover help elongate the lifespan of your mattress while helping to keep your overall bed in great shape, but the BedStory Gel Hybrid Mattress offers much more convenient features as well.
You won’t have to lug your mattress from the store, to car, to home, instead, you can expect your mattress to come conveniently shipped right to your door.
BedStory mattresses are compressed and fit into an easy to handle box so not much work is required from you! The weight of these mattresses won’t be too hard to handle either, so you won’t need much help getting your mattress all set up.
The company does ask that you give it some time to fully expand and off-gas, but that’s a small price to pay to get out of the hassle of hauling a bed to your home.
Great for Those with Allergies
Thanks to the addition of latex in between the mattress’ layers, allergy sufferers won’t have to worry about their bed being behind the reason they wake up miserable.
This mattress is resistant to allergy triggers including dust mites, bacteria and mould so you can rest a little easier at night.
It’s Certi-PUR US-certified so you can confirm this mattress was also made without any harmful materials like lead and formaldehyde, making it a healthier option in terms of bedding.
Sadly, this is a con found in all memory foam beds. Memory foam, especially when it’s shipped to your door, will give off a strong chemical odor.
This tends to fade as the material is allowed to expand and air out. However, testers noticed that this odor lingered for several days, requiring them to have patience not only in the expansion time – but also in the airing-out time.
It’s wise to set up the bed in a room that can be isolated, should you be very sensitive to smells. A faint odor may linger for a few extra days, so if that’s unbearable for you, it’s wise to shop for a bed that won’t be shipped.
Users were also displeased with the sinking edges of this bed. If you sit on the corner of the mattress to put on your shoes in the morning, you’ll be sliding off in short order.
The edges are just not strong enough to hold the weight and aren’t as supportive as they should be.
If you do end up purchasing this mattress, watch the edges. They won’t tolerate your weight and you don’t want to be sliding off.
Not as Advertised
Quite a few users noticed that the mattress failed to expand to its full size. The bed arrived, was set up, and was allowed to expand for a few days, but never rose to the full 10 inches.
Most users stated that it only reached 8 inches. This is definitely unfortunate. While this mattress isn’t the most expensive on the market (under $300 on Amazon), it’s definitely not the absolute cheapest either.
You should be receiving the product as advertised, and regardless of the price tag, you should accept nothing less.
After going through all the positives and negatives, we are cautiously recommending the BedStory Gel Hybrid Mattress. The comfort, support, and its stay-cool nature are all fantastic features of this mattress.
However, some users are not getting a 10-inch mattress and are having issues with the edges not being supportive enough. That’s definitely something to worry about for some customers.
No matter how much you pay for a mattress, you want to receive a quality product. While not everyone had these issues, enough did to make us a bit cautious.
These are specific problems and if those problems aren’t an issue for you, it will serve well as a cost-effective and comfortable bed.
